You can then reflect on all this natural beauty in the evening in our hotels. Let’s go!

Our recommendation
Breathtaking views as far as the eye can see!
Nestled between Walchensee and Kochselsee lakes in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, the Jochberg is one of the most popular place for hikes around Munich due to its proximity to the city and its stunning location. The journey to the Jochberg takes around an hour from Munich to the Jochberg car park, and you’ll need around three hours and 15 minutes for the ascent and descent of the approx. 715 metres in altitude. The view from the summit cross at 1,565 metres above sea level – with lakes, the Benediktenwand, Karwendel and Zugspitze mountains – is absolutely spectacular!
Perfect day trip by car or train
On foot
To the Jochberg on foot? Naturally, we’re big advocates of exercise, but before you set off on foot for the mountains, save your energy for hiking once you arrive – surrounded by fresh air instead of exhaust fumes. In short: walking there is not an option.
By car
From the elaya hotel munich city or elaya hotel munich schwabing, take the A95 Garmisch to the Kochel/Murnau exit, then to Kochel and continue towards Walchensee. Take Kesselbergstraße to the Jochberg. The paid car park is approximately 100 meters away. Depending on your starting point, you should allow one to one and a half hours for the journey.
By public transport
Whether you’re staying at the elaya hotel munich city or the elaya hotel munich schwabing, your first destination is the main railway station, which you can reach on foot, by underground (U1/U7) or tram (20/21), or by underground and tram (various options). From here, the RB66 regional train will take you to Kochel in about an hour and a quarter. Take bus 9608 towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Kesselberg Paßhöhe and then walk to the starting point of the hike at the Jochberg. Alternatively, you can take the train to Murnau, but you will then have to take two different buses to reach Kesselberg Paßhöhe, which will take longer.
